Elder David Royal is in Peru!!!!

We received an email from David advising of his arrival in Peru. He seems to be doing well. We also received a tape he made in the MTC in Provo, which was really funny. In his younger days, David aspired to be a comedian. (He acted as though his every act and comment was filmed before a live studio audience.) Anyway, he acquired a pretty quit wit and had us all laughing. Below is his email, followed by an email we received this morning from the Peru MTC Mission President’s spouse, Sister Groberg, regarding the sending of packages. Did you see the opening ceremonies of the Olympics last night? Wow. That was really amazing. (We clapped not only for the US, but also for the Philippines and Peru! Yay!!)

(From David)

¿Hello? Yo! Well, I’m in Peru, after a nice day of traveling, lots of flying, all that good stuff. I’m using a Spanish keyboard and it is jacked up. All the buttons are whack. I can’t find certain buttons for grammar. Anyway, holy crazy driving in Peru, no rules - that’s for sure. Gotta love it. The MTC is way nice here. I’m sure that I will like it. It’s really weird to think that I’m on a different continent, though. Not totally real yet, but I’m sure that it will get there soon enough. I have a new native companion, with a crazy name that I can’t say, much less spell. So I shan’t be trying that. But I have a feeling that Spanish will come much easier here, hopefully. So far I have talked a bit with the native guys and every once in a while they stare at me funny like, ¿como? ... so I guess that means my Spanish is no bueno.

I’m not sure when our preparation day is here, or how much time wéll have on the computer...but they wanted us to email our families to let you know then we made it here. And I am waaaaaaaay tired. so after I finish this I get to go shower and take a nap, which is awesome! It was pretty rough trying to sleep on the plane...but I think I might have got a couple hours worth at least...with some weird dreams on the side. But that’s about it. Hey, this is me from Lima, over and out.

Adios.

Dear Sister Royal,

Your very sweet son, Elder Royal, asked if I would e-mail you the instructions he forgot to give you on the day his group had computer privileges: ̈Please do not send packages to the CCM. It is VERY expensive to get them out of Customs, and VERY time-consuming.̈ Thank you for understanding. It can take a missionary half a day of work here to be taken to Customs to claim a package. Please send only letters: Lima Perú Missionary Training Center, P.O. Box 30150 Salt Lake City, UT 84130-0150 (regular postage) - or - Centro de Capacitación Misional, Av. Melgarejo 159, La Molina, Lima 12, PERÚ (overseas postage).

We are taking advantage of Elder Royaĺs piano playing skills. Thank you for preparing a wonderful missionary.

Love, Hermana Groberg

Reports of Elder Royal’s piano playing is music to our ears. Oh how many times we countered grumbling about piano playing with the following: Someday you will be on a mission in a remote area where no one can play the piano but you. This is preparation for that moment. Pay attention, Jordan!! ;)

Have a great weekend. Go Team USA! ;)
