Memorable December Zone Conference

December 14, 2009

Hey hey hey

I hate to begin on a negative note, but . . . I really hate internet cafes. This place is driving me nuts. The beauty of being in the office was having quality computers. These internet cafes always make me want to throw the computer against the wall. But I haven’t done that yet. So, away we go . . . .

This week went pretty well – at least, I have nothing to complain about anyway (well, for the very minor exception of internet cafes). We have a few investigators still coming along. Eva was schedule for baptism yesterday, but decided to wait until some time during this week. She has an interesting situation. Her family is just not down with the Church at all, and she has pretty much been learning everything from us, going to church and all that stuff in complete secrecy to avoid problems with her family. However, she decided that she is going to tell her family of her baptism. Hopefully they don’t threaten to disown her. If anything bad happens, she may not get baptized this week. We’ll see. She said that she is still going to get baptized no matter what, but she just wants to tell her family. We are teaching a cool family right now with two little boys, I think I may have mentioned them last week. Those two kids are nuts. It’s hilarious. They are really young, like five and two years old, but whenever we go it’s kinda hard to teach because they are just bouncing off the walls. We usually play with them a little bit, hoping to get rid of some of the energy, but they just never stop. We were trying to teach a bit and out of nowhere the younger kid ran up and bit my arm. That was funny. They are a good little family and I am surprised that they never got baptized in the past. They are more family oriented than most we meet. So we have really been focusing on the Book of Mormon with them, which is all about saving families by bringing them to Christ.

We had interviews with the President this past week, and zone conference. It was interesting because we did interviews and a conference twice this cambio. Next cambio we won’t have any, though, which means we won’t have another one until at least February. But it went really well. The President of the CCM, President Groberg, came for the zone conference. He was there when I was in the CCM, and it was funny to see him again because so much time has past - yet it felt like I just saw him a week ago. Crazy. We watched an amazing video about Christ in the Americas. I think it’s pretty new, but it was so cool. It made the whole meeting much more powerful.

The zone is doing okay. This is the last week in this cambio, so I am hoping that we can finish strong. The trend usually is that the last week doesn’t go so well because most are just getting ready for a change. Hopefully, we can avoid that. This is the final week for a lot of American missionaries, too. There are a lot going home just before Christmas. That will be extra weird. Many of the 16 going home are elders that I have grown quite close to during my time here and, to be honest, that is a little sad because I will really miss them. I am not sure yet what will be happening with me next change. I assume that I will stay here in Piura Central as a ZL, and that I will be getting a new comp, but aside from that I am not sure. I am just trying hard to focus on becoming a good leader. There are still a lot of things I need to figure out to become a better leader. So that’s my challenge right now, but it is coming along. After all, all struggles can only make me better.

Oh, quick story. Today we came to Catacaos. We arrived in vans. We got here, we all hopped out and I started talking to Elder Kolb, who smacked his knee on the door as he jumped out of the van and, for whatever reason, he then passed out on the side of the street. It was pretty weird. I picked him up real quick because he was almost laying down in the street, and he kinda woke up in a daze, and looked at me, and then his legs collapsed again and he started falling. Another missionary and I supported him and all these people came rushing over saying: "take him to the hospital!" They started trying to pick him up and throw him in a moto to rush to the clinic...and I was just trying not to laugh. I knew he was fine, just a little light headed or something...and I made them put his legs down and just started giving him water and he woke up and was alright. It was one of those funny/weird stories. Bottom line: Elder Kolb is fine.

I hope everyone has a good week. Dad, those rat pictures you sent were gross even by Peruvian standards. Mom, I did get the package, the small one anyway. Still haven’t seen the big one, but I am looking forward to it. And the banner that everyone wrote on was awesome! So thanks a lot for that, and also for the Christmas ties - I have one on right now and it’s sweet. And thanks in advance for all the wonderful people that are planning on sharing their Christmas cheer by sending me mail this month... :)

The Church is true. Love it. Live it.
